Raw materials for felt production
High-quality materials for the highest demands.
The quality of our felt products begins with the selection of raw materials. The quality of our felt products begins with the selection of raw materials. HEY‑SIGN by BWF Group relies exclusively on selected materials and combines traditional craftsmanship with modern manufacturing technology.
Advantages of the raw materials
Wool – the natural material with character
100% pure new wool forms the basis of many of our felt qualities.
Wool is:
- Breathable, temperature- and moisture-regulating
- Elastic and shape‑retaining
- Suitable for sound absorption and heat storage
Properties of wool:
- Can bind certain pollutants, such as formaldehyde
- Protective: flame-retardant, UV-resistant
- Other characteristics: crease-resistant, elastic, easy to care for
Viscose – the cellulose fibre
Made from natural cellulose (wood) using a wet spinning process.
Viscose is:
- Good moisture absorption
- A textured surface
- Biological origin
Properties of viscose:
- Decomposition temperature: 175–190 °C
- Antistatic, moderately acid-resistant
- Elastic, but limited tear resistance
Polyester – the technical all-rounder
Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is used for many technical felt applications – for example in acoustics or as a carrier material.
Properties of polyester:
- Low moisture absorption (0.2–0.5%)
- High melting temperature (250–260°C)
- UV-resistant & smooth surface
- Temperature-resistant up to 150°C
- Low alkali resistance, but robust and versatile
